Case Study : Home Gym - Pacific Palisades

For this unique home gym installation AFP President and CEO, Bryan Green was involved from the beginning as it was created for a long time client. The objective was to creating a vibrant, modern fitness space that was as conducive to high-energy fun, as it was to high-end luxury. This family is extremely active with a high-energy lifestyle and wanted to space to reflect this. With that in mind, Green focused initially on aesthetics knowing full well that the “look” of the room would be as intrinsic to capturing this spirit of vitality and fun, as the equipment itself. Green’s design featured a bold color scheme that capitalized on the sharp contrast of black and orange tones. AFP started by installing a black composite-rubber floor, and selected all black Precor, Star Trac and Icarian machines that would fall in line with the desired “look,” but also provide the highest-quality training experience available. The black flooring and equipment motif was contrast against the room’s bold and bright orange walls.

To create versatility within the room, AFP carved out niches throughout, described by Green as “dedicated coves,” to house free weights and accessories. These “coves” complimented a vast central open floor space, allowing the client to move freely as well as to provide ample space for mat training, yoga and other training methods that demand significant open space. While every wellness facility should represent the unique needs and goals of the client – this aspect is undoubtedly more prominent and specifically tailored in the environment of the home gym. In these instances, the personal attitude and lifestyle of the client need to come through in the design and the final product. For this unique space, this goal was certainly accomplished.
