AFP Commends Hospitality Clients, Distinguished With Esteemed LEED National Certification

AFP’s “Green” Fitness Solutions Bring Value to Three LEED Recipients – The National “Gold Standard” for Energy- and Environmental-Conscious Hotels

LOS ANGELES – July 14, 2009 – Three of Advantage Fitness Products’ (AFP) valued hospitality clients where recognized in 2009 in the area of energy efficiency and environmentally-conscious design, when receiving the nationally-coveted LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification – the gold standard for energy and environmentally-focused development.

Orchard Garden Hotel, San Francisco; Intercontinental Hotel, San Francisco and Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito, Calif., were three of only 18 hotels nationwide that received this distinguished certification. Each of the three properties utilized AFP due to its expertise and emphasis in providing fitness solutions with an eye on energy efficiency and environmental protection, in addition to AFP’s core service areas of planning, design, supply, service and revenue-based, fitness-business development.

“We congratulate the impressive distinction and the accomplishments of these facilities that have done much to maintain an elite standard of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability,” said Bryan Green, President and CEO of AFP. “We take great pride in knowing that AFP has played a modest role in helping these hotels raise the bar towards this critical need and important business practice being driven by the consumer. “

AFP has committed itself as a leader within the fitness industry to participate proactively on issues of energy conservation and sustainability as they relate to the wellness environment. Fitness center design, supply, and management can be approached with the same care as all other facets of property development. Critical considerations in the areas of electrical planning, health and hygiene measures, and the use of environmentally-friendly materials in fitness center supply have too often been overlooked. AFP advises its clients on best practices and new technologies within the fitness industry in an effort to address the growing demand for Green solutions.

“We live in an era where it’s incumbent on industry to assume leadership with a focus and emphasis on environmental responsibility,” said Green. At AFP, we are working to do our part by helping our clients fulfill their own responsibility in this critical area.”

In addition to an increased emphasis on “green” fitness solutions within their fitness amenities, these hotels go far beyond simply reusing towels or encouraging guests to sleep more than one night on the same linens. They are adopting a full range of environmentally-friendly design elements, including low-flow toilets, wall insulation made from recycled denim, compact fluorescent light bulbs, recycled flooring materials and more.

LEED certification is sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, which ensures that the facility has been evaluated for energy efficiency, water savings, materials use and other sustainability-related criteria.
